The Whanganui Regional Museum is a beautiful museum located in the cultural heart of Whanganui. Set in the picturesque Pukenamu Queen's Park, the location offers visitors a unique glimpse into the history, culture, and natural world of the region. The Taonga Maori Collection is the highlight of the museum, featuring remarkable creations by the tupuna (ancestors) of Whanganui tangata whenua (people of the land).
The changing exhibition program is another exciting feature that showcases the development of Whanganui and the natural world. Don't forget to stop by the Museum Shop for a variety of local and Maori jewellery, books, cards, and other New Zealand-made items. Admission is free, and the museum is open daily (except Christmas Day and Good Friday) from 10.00am to 4.30pm.
